Border Roads Organisation (BRO) continues to play a pivotal role in India's strategic infrastructure development. Operating in some of the country’s most challenging environments characterized by extreme weather, rugged terrain, high altitudes and logistical difficulties, BRO remains committed to enhancing operational preparedness and promoting socio-economic growth in remote and isolated regions.

In FY 2024 25, with a record expenditure of ₹16,600 crore, BRO completed 1,170 kilometres of new roads, underscoring its enhanced efficiency and capacity to deliver despite challenging environments. Noteworthy projects such as the Sela Tunnel, Saser Brangsa Bridge, Mudh Nyoma Airfield, Shinkhun La Tunnel and the Arunachal Frontier Highway demonstrate the engineering excellence and forward-thinking approach of BRO.

BRO has significantly enhanced its project delivery capabilities by implementing key reforms, such as expanding the EPC model, accelerating the DPR process and adopting new technologies. These measures have resulted in surge in achievement of physical and financial targets in recent years. Additionally, special recruitment drives have addressed workforce shortages. The Organisation has also placed a strong emphasis on welfare initiatives for its personnel and Casual Paid Labourers (CPLs), recognizing their crucial role in carrying out work under difficult conditions.

BRO has proved its mettle by rapidly creating critical road infrastructure in Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas of Chhattisgarh, thus contributing significantly in Nation’s war against Naxalism. Border fencing works along the Indo-Myanmar Border (IMB) and construction of Indo-China Border Roads (ICBRs) in Northern India, highlight its strategic significance to the Nation’s security apparatus.

BRO has consistently demonstrated its readiness for rapid response in times of crisis, as seen by its swift response during the GLOF disaster in Sikkim and the Silkyara Tunnel rescue operation in Uttarakhand. These actions reaffirm the Organisation's unwavering commitment to the Nation.
